3 Favorite Foods to Make on an Outdoor Fireplace

November 15, 2020/in Burn Cage /by Lindsey Lecus

Cozy fall nights are the perfect time to experiment with new treats on your outdoor fireplace! Bring your family together and enjoy cooking in your own backyard. Our incinerators make great firepits and help make clean up easier than ever before, allowing you to have fun without worrying about the mess.

Here are our Top 3 Favorite Foods to make on an outdoor fireplace! If you try out these recipes with your incinerator, be sure to tag us on social media or leave us a review. You could be featured on our website, Facebook, Pinterest, or Instagram!

Bread & Crescent Rolls

This is great for a savory or sweet treat and can be used as a dessert or an additional side to your dinner plans. Tear your refrigerated dough into strips or triangles and wrap around a roasting stick. Make sure it’s on securely and head over to your firepit for cooking. When roasting over the fire, be sure to turn consistently and avoid any extremely hot spots – you want to get an even, golden cook for the best results!

After your dough has been thoroughly cooked, take it off the heat and cover in your choice of toppings. Our favorites are butter and herb seasoning for a more savory bread roll or with butter, cinnamon, and sugar to make a campfire churro!

S’mores with a Twist

Everyone loves the traditional s’more with a graham cracker, marshmallow, and chocolate. But there’s so many fun ways to dress up this classic treat!

Replace the graham cracker with a cookie or other delicious sandwich layer. Anything with chocolate already baked in can make for easier eating and clean up later on!

You can also get creative with the types of chocolate you combine. Chocolate peanut butter cups, almond bars, dark chocolate, and chocolate mint bars make for flavorful substitutions!

Start by cooking your marshmallow over the fire with the roasting stick of your choice. Once your marshmallow is to your liking (we recommend a deep golden brown!), remove from heat and combine with your desired toppings. Enjoy!

Marshmallow or ash left on your roasting stick after you’re done? You can use your incinerator to help clean up! Hold the stick over the heat until the residual mess cooks off; wait for the metal to cool and then wipe clean.

Chocolate Eclairs

A Burn Right family favorite, chocolate eclairs made over the open flame are dessert we know you’ll love as much as we do! This recipe requires crescent roll dough, vanilla pudding, and chocolate frosting, but these ingredients can be switched out for whatever you find most appealing. Chocolate pudding also makes a great filling!

Using a 1-inch wooden dowel or wooden broom handle, wrap the tip with aluminum foil and spray with your choice of cooking spray. Using rectangles of crescent roll dough, wrap securely around the tip and squeeze tightly to ensure there are no holes or air pockets. Roast over your fire until the dough is cooked thoroughly, aiming for a golden-brown color. You will need to turn occasionally to ensure proper cooking.

Once your dough is cooked, remove from the heat and pull your crescent from the wooden dowel. Slide onto a plate and fill with your choice of pudding before covering with frosting. Enjoy, and get ready to make another (you’ll definitely want one)!

Purchasing a home incinerator can be a great investment for your family and home. Your incinerator can also be a vital tool for home improvement and yard clean-up projects, allowing you to build the home of your dreams.

Document Disposal

Clear up your office files in a flash. Burn Right incinerators can quickly and securely dispose of your old files, tax documents, or other outdated documents so they aren’t cluttering up important space. No need to worry about hiring a shredding service or spending hours destroying each single piece of paper; toss it into your incinerator and watch it disappear in a flash!

Yard Clean Up

Getting rid of fallen leaves or branches is one of the most popular uses for a backyard incinerator, especially in more rural areas. Our burn barrels are easy to use and can cut down the time it takes to clear your yard from unwanted debris.

Ensuring your leaves or other wood is completely dry can speed up the process further and allow you to get the yard of your dreams without all the effort. Our burn barrels are also portable and leave very little ash after burning, allowing you to move locations on a large property for even easier clean up.

Home Burnables Disposal

Reduce the amount of waste being sent to the junkyard and instead collect burnables to dispose of with your incinerator. Instead of filling landfills, dispose of online shopping packaging, paper, and other burnables from the comfort of your backyard! It’s quick, simple, and can save you money in the long run. Hosting a Backyard Incinerator Party

May 28, 2020/in Burn Cage /by Lindsey Lecus

Summer is the perfect time for backyard bonfires with friends, family, and neighbors! Be the envy of your loved ones and use your Burn Right incinerator to host the best party yet. We encourage you to always follow our Safety Precautions when burning, but inviting more friends to join in on the fun is a great way to make your experience even better.

Set Up Your Incinerator Beforehand

In order to spend more time with guests when they arrive, set up your incinerator and necessary safety materials before your party begins. You can load your burn barrel with wood, paper, and other burnables while also preparing any needed supplies for refueling. This will ensure you have everything required for a positive burning and socializing experience so you can focus on being a good host.

It is also wise to always review weather forecasts before deciding to use your incinerator and stay up-to-date on local burning laws, regulations, and restrictions.

Make Safety a Priority

Whenever you have an open flame at your backyard party, remember to keep safety as your top priority. This ensures that you, your guests, and the environment all have fun without getting burned or causing any unintended destruction. Please be sure to review our Safety Precautions closely and advise your guests on how to properly behave around an open flame. This includes constantly supervising children and pets.

Encourage Guests to Bring Burnables

Having guests bring their own burnables is a unique way to make them feel included in the burning process. Do your guests have old paperwork they’d like to thermal shred? Have them bring it along! Incinerators make quick work of old tax papers and confidential documents, so spending quality time while disposing of unwanted papers can be an evening well spent.

If friends or neighbors have dried leaves and other easily moved yard debris, these can also make great fuel for your burn barrel and help beautify your neighborhood. When burning wood, remember to only burn supplies from your local area to avoid spreading potentially dangerous insects.

Choose the Right Food

Selecting refreshments for your backyard party can be tricky but using your incinerator makes cooking both easier and more exciting for guests. Some great options to consider include traditional s’mores, hot dogs, and campfire crescent rolls – all of which can be cooked with the heat of your burn barrel.

Want to add a little personal flavor to your food lineup? Consider putting new spins on the traditional! Swap out the chocolate in your s’more for a peanut butter cup, cookies and cream chocolate bar, caramel square or other favorite sweet treat. Add some unique options to your hot dog toppings and create a full Chicago style or chili dog bar. There are many ways to get creative when cooking on your incinerator!

Enjoy Your Party!

Types of Wood to Avoid Burning in Your Backyard Incinerator

May 5, 2020/in Burn Cage, Safety Tips /by Lindsey Lecus

Last week, we shared a helpful guide on what types of wood burn well in your backyard incinerator. This week, we’re looking at what to avoid burning so you can have the best experience possible while still being environmentally friendly.

When deciding what not to burn, there are a few basic rules to keep in mind. While you can burn many things in your burn barrel, it is important to remember that you can’t burn everything. If you’re unsure of a certain material, always do your research before throwing it into the fire pit.

Non-Local Wood

Any firewood that has traveled a long distance risks exposing new areas to invasive diseases and insects. Just one infected log can put an entire forest at risk, so it is vital to always source your burning materials locally. Especially during warmer months, many local retailers will carry firewood that you can use to fuel your incinerator safely.

Driftwood

Wood that has been exposed to water or other unknown conditions can lead to dangerous chemicals forming on the wood. Salt and chlorine can turn into carcinogens, which are toxic and should be avoided at all costs when burning. If you find driftwood, consider cleaning it up from the ground and choosing an alternative disposal method.

Painted & Treated Wood

Wood that has been painted or treated can be a hazard to your health and the overall environment. Especially in older woods that have been preserved with treatments, toxic chemicals such as arsenic can be found. If burned, this releases all of the dangerous toxins into the air. This is also true of painted wood, which can include its own set of chemicals.

It is best to avoid burning these types of wood all together and find a different disposal method. If you are unsure if your wood was treated or not, try out this simple test kit to help make smarter burning decisions.

Green Wood

It is always best to let your freshly cut wood dry out, otherwise you may end up burning green wood. In addition to being difficult to light, the high sap and moisture content leads to more smoke and results in an inefficient burn.

Always do your research before burning and remember to follow our Safety Precautions for the best experience possible.

Your Backyard Incinerator: What are Popular Types of Burning Wood?

April 22, 2020/in Burn Cage /by Lindsey Lecus

Wondering what types of wood to use in your burn barrel? There are many options that can make your burning experience even better!

Knowing and understanding types of wood can help improve your safety, reduce smoke production further, and maximize the efficiency of your incinerator. Our products are better for the environment due to their ability to completely incinerate materials with less smoke and ash. Different firewood gives different results, so being familiar with the characteristics and unique qualities of each type is important when considering options for your incinerator.

Two Main Categories of Wood

Firewood has two main categories that everything falls under: hardwood and softwood. The difference isn’t in their appearance, but in their reproduction and actual structure. Each type has benefits and should be considered for whatever your burning needs may be at that time. Having a variety also helps you learn what works best for you!

Hardwoods

Hardwoods are usually denser and provide a longer burning experience with increased heat. They have the least sap and pitch, and are typically easier to handle. This category includes popular options such as oak, ash, birch, and maple, as well as most fruit trees. While they burn for a longer time, they can result in chunky ash due to the structure of the wood.

Softwoods

These are usually the most budget-friendly options when considering firewood. This category includes fir, pine, spruce, cedar, alder, and poplar, trees that can usually be found on large properties of land. These woods can be a little messy to handle due to their levels of sap, especially pine, and may cause some buildup after burning. However, these types of wood burn quickly and result in finer ash compared to hardwoods. They are also lighter to carry and season more quickly, meaning they can be burned sooner.

Which Option is Best for Me?

Choosing the right wood depends on what you need during that burning session! Each time may be different and may require a new option of wood. Check out some of these popular choices and their unique benefits.

Apple – Produces a pleasant scent and burns slowly with a small flame.

Ash – Produces a steady flame and strong heat output. This is considered one of the best burning options!

Birch – Burns quickly with strong heat.

Elm – Can be tough to split, but produces an even burn.

Maple – Burns similar to Oak, but is very dense.

Oak – Density of the wood produces a small flame and very slow burn.

Tamarack – Straight grained, easy to split and gives good heat.
